Dear all the Taiwanese students in CMU, UPitt, and Duquesne University,
This coming Tuesday 2/10/09, the director of the Taipei Economic and
Cultural Office (駐紐約臺北經濟文化辦事處) will come to Pittsburgh and meet with
all Taiwanese students around. In case you do not know who they are,
here are the descriptions of what they are working on:
Services of Cultural Division 文化組服務項目
* Providing Taiwan's education information to American individuals
and organizations
* Administering Taiwan scholarships to American students
* Helping institutes of higher learning build up academic linkages
and cooperative programs
* Assisting Taiwanese self-funded as well as government-sponsored
students pursuing studies in the region
* 留學生及其組織之聯繫、輔導
* 外國學生赴臺研習中文或留學之推廣與輔導
* 大紐約地區學術及教育資料之蒐集、交換事項
* 大紐約地區學者專家來台訪問、講學之聯繫、協助
* 出國進修人員之聯繫、輔導
* 協助國內各單位會同美國各大學查證學歷證件
There will be a short 15-20 minutes introduction of the office
followed by a short discussion of further service they can provide to
all oversea Taiwanese students. Free pizza and soft drinks will be
served afterwards.
Location: Doherty Hall 2105
Time:5pm to 6pm
When: Feb 10th, Tuesday

Dear TSS members,
Here is an update of our TSS Chinese New Year dinner event.
As of now (10:45, Jan 20, 2009), there are 47 people signed up for the event using our online payment system. As mentioned in our previous e-mail, we urge you to register as soon as possible so we can prepare proper amount of food. Our online payment system will be closed at 6:30pm on Thursday, Jan 22, 2009. There will only be a limited number of seats opened for people who pay on the Friday ($15 instead of the online price $12) so register in advance!
On Friday, we will have several social activities/games. The prizes which will be given to the winners of the games include:
* United airlines ticket voucher * One certificate (for two tickets) to Opera La Boheme on March 31st, 2009. Valued up to $140. * One certificate (for two tickets) to Opera The Italian Girl in Algiers on May 8th, 2009. As announced in the previous general meeting, TSS has its own membership card now with restaurant benefits. You can find a list of restaurants and discounts followed by this email.
The membership card is going to be $5 per person
We will have a table in CMU University Center (in front of Connan room) for the next following Thursday and Fridays (10/20 and 10/21) from 4:00pm to 5:30pm selling this card if you sign up before next Wednesday noon.
